[PARIS-ÎLE-DE-FRANCE] AFRO-RAP
« Je vis entre deux géographies. J’ai créé la mienne grâce à la culture et à la musique, un afro-rap, un nouveau son qui me raccroche à l’histoire de ma diaspora avec des africains comme Koto Brawa mais aussi avec des musiciens blancs comme Simon Chenet et Jean Baptiste Meyer Bish qui ont en eux cette culture noire. »
Auteur, rappeur, chanteur, poète urbain des temps modernes, Edgar Sekloka est un artiste alto séquanais d’origine camerounaise et béninoise. En 2008 il fonde avec Gaël Faye le groupe Milk Coffee and Sugar, réalise entre 2016 et 2017 Chaplinesques, 7 ciné-jams sur des courts-métrages de Chaplin. Après une première résidence en février 2018 au Tamanoir, il développe son spectacle Musique noire, un projet culturel alliant musique et création audiovisuelle, inspiré du roman d’Alice Walker Les identités pourpres où il explore blues, sébéné, zouk, et folk.
« I live between two geographies. I created mine thanks to culture and music, an afro-rap, a new sound which relates me to the history of my diaspora. Author, rapper, singer, urban poet, Edgar Sekloka is a french artist with a Cameroonese and Beninese background. In 2008 he founded with Gaël Faye a band named Milk Coffee and Sugar, created in 2016 and 2017 the Chaplinesques, a series of 7 movies-jams on Chaplin works. After a first artistic residence in February 2018 at Tamanoir (a music venue in Gennevilliers), he is working on a new project, Black Music, allying music and audiovisual creation revisiting blues, sébéné, zouk and folk and inspired by Alice Walker’s novel, Purple identities.
