Chakâm, du nom d’une ancienne forme poétique, a été formé en 2014 par Sogol Mirzaei pour célébrer initialement la tradition musicale persane. Aujourd’hui, cette formation mêle l’éclat du târ de Sogol Mirzaei (Iran) au qanun soyeux de Christine Zayed (Palestine) portés par la profonde viole de gambe de Marie-Suzanne de Loye (France).

Ces trois musiciennes dévoilent un langage où les cordes dialoguent, s’affrontent et se retrouvent dans un souffle puissant ou au contraire apaisé, lorsque le chant, en quelques occasions, s’élève. Bâties selon les codes du radif et du maqam où d’intenses passages rythmiques répondent aux vibrantes tirades mélodieuses, les performances de Chakâm donnent aujourd’hui à entendre d’authentiques compositions et improvisations personnelles et modernes. Chakâm, c’est enfin un univers à la croisée des parcours : nostalgie des terres quittées trop tôt, déracinement et idéalisation d’un ailleurs qui s’efface au fil du temps, mais aussi vitalité incessante de l’expérience, de la découverte et du renouveau. L’Ensemble Chakâm a remporté le prix du public et des étudiants d’ICART Sessions édition 2021.

Chakâm, named after an ancient poetic form, was created in 2014 by Sogol Mirzaei, initially to celebrate the Persian musical tradition. Today, the Ensemble Chakâm  combines the traditional târ instrument of Sogol Mirzaei (Iran) with the qanun of Christine Zayed (Palestine) fused with the deep sounds of Marie-Suanne de Loye’s (France) viola da gamba.

These three talented musicians reveal a language within which the three strings create a pure dialogue, confronting each other and meeting in a powerful or sometimes peaceful breath when the singing, on some occasions, rises above them. Built around the musical codes of radif and maqam within which intense rhythmic passages respond to vibrant melodious tirades, Chakâm’s performances reveal authentic personal and modern compositions and improvisations. Chakâm is a whole universe at a crossroads: longing for lands that were left behind, uprooting and idealization of an elsewhere that slowly fades over time, but also the incessant vitality brought by experience, discovery and rebirth. Ensemble Chakâm won the public and student prize of ICART Sessions 2021 edition.
